It has finally warmed up enough here in Central Ohio to actually enjoy being outside and that includes grilling out!
We’ve still had a few cool days plus a lot of rain this spring, so when the temps finally started inching toward the upper 60’s and low 70’s, I couldn’t wait to fire up the grill!
I am always experimenting when it comes to grilling hamburgers and this recipe is not exception. The flavors are amazing, with the caramelized onions combined with the bacon and cheddar! And with the Franks Hot Sauce added in the ground beef, the taste is amazing!
Bacon Cheeseburgers with Caramelized Onions
1 pound Ground Chuck
2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
1 Tablespoon Franks Hot Sauce
2 Cloves Garlic, minced
Salt and Pepper to taste
2 Sweet Onions
8 Strips of Bacon, fried
4 Slices Cheddar Cheese
Preheat a skillet over medium low heat, with 2 tablespoons of olive oil.( Be sure to use one deep enough to hold all your onions.) You will want to get the onions going first, since it takes a little while to cook them. The key to caramelizing is low and slow!
Cut onions in half and slice into strips. Place in skillet and stir to coat. Allow them to start cooking, keeping an eye on them and stirring every few minutes. If you notice that they are sticking to the pan, you can add a little water and adjust your heat lower if needed. Cook until they are a beautiful golden brown.
While the onions are cooking, fry the bacon until crisp. Drain on a paper towel.
Place ground chuck in a bowl. Add in minced garlic, hot sauce and season with salt and pepper. Mix well.
Divide meat mixture in 4 equal parts and form into patties.
Preheat your grill. I like to keep my grill temperature around 300 degrees when cooking. Cook the hamburger patties about 3-4 per side or until desired doneness .
Once the patties are cooked, add a slice of cheddar cheese to each one. Keep grill lid closed until cheese has melted.
Place each patty on a bun and add caramelized onions and 2 strips of bacon.
Serve with your favorite side dishes.
